1. What’s your name, position, and goal in life?
My name is Brendan McInerney, I am the Digital Media Planner on the Media team. My goal in life is to always be happy. I want to live comfortably and be surrounded by amazing people.
2. What do you love most about being a Digital Media Planner?
I like being able to write text ads. I think it is the most creative side of my role. I also enjoy testing ads and optimizing in favor of the top performer. It is rewarding when you see an ad perform well for a client because of how you positioned it.
3. If you were a Disney Character, what would you be?
I would be a Lifeguard and then a Food and Beverage attendant. When I worked in Disney World they said that when we were in our uniform we were in character. However, I would much prefer to be Woody. Like me, he surrounds himself with great people (toys) and strives to make others happy.
4. What’s the most challenging part of your job?
I think the most challenging part of my job is time. There is always lots to do but limited time to do it. Sometimes when working on a task you don’t realize it could have been done more quickly until you’re almost done.
5. What is your favorite Arizona hot spot?
I think Old Town Scottsdale would be my favorite spot. When I graduated from ASU I moved into the heart of Old Town and I love every day of it. Everything is in walking distance such as the mall, movie theater, amazing restaurants and spring training. Also, there are a lot of cool festivals that occur when the weather’s nice. There’s just always something fun happening.
6. What is the worst thing you’ve ever done and gotten away with?
(After some pestering from me)
The summer going into college I was buying beer for a bunch of my friends at a 7/11. I drove my dad’s car and I had made room in the trunk to make room for the beer before I left the store. As I was about to get out of the car to purchase the beer a man in a pickup truck rear-ended me. Being a kid and driving my dad’s car I called my dad to come help with the situation. He opened the trunk to check for damages. Upon seeing everything pushed back he said: “He must have hit you pretty hard to make everything move back like this.” After we got the situation under control and my dad left, I proceeded to drive a lap around the block and back to the 7/11. I purchased the beer, dropped the car off and never spoke of it again.
7. What’s your favorite meal of the day?
Dinner. I can put away a large meal pretty easily. I think the main difference between lunch and dinner is that dinner has larger portions.
8. If you could change one thing about your past, what would it be?
Travel. I never took advantage of study abroad programs which I regret. I think it would be cool to travel the world for a few months.
9. What is your favorite thing about working at OMA so far?
I think the people here are great and I’m excited to get to know everyone more. So that will probably be my answer in a month. I like how collaborative everyone is. It is cool to see everyone working so closely with one another. I especially liked the brainstorming session I took part in for a new client. This was something I did not expect participating in considering my role. I really enjoyed that.
10. Is Gif pronounced with a soft G like “gift” or a hard G like “giraffe?”
Just like its spelled. It’s pronounced like “gift.” I don’t know where Steve Wilhite gets off trying to pronounce it as “jif.” I think it is absurd.
